CLIQ Intelligent Electronics CLIQ is based on electronics that can be embedded directly inside the key and the core of a cylinder. A replaceable battery is inserted into the key and serves as the sole power source. The electronic mechanism embedded in the cylinder, is a self-contained unit. This translates into no wiring whatsoever. Consequently, the intelligent cylinder installs with ease, just like a mechanical cylinder. Operating Principle The use of ABLOY PROTEC CLIQ keys and cylinders is nearly the same as the use of a mechanical locking system. The only difference is the visual and acoustic signals given to the key holder when a CLIQ key is inserted in a CLIQ cylinder. The electronics in the key and cylinder cause a small delay of 0.1 seconds before the key can be turned after the key insertion. CLIQ Key Material: The key has a metal shaft and a plastic bow. The CLIQ electronics is located under the plastic cover. One of identifications is a globally unique number. CLIQ key battery The battery powers the electronics in the key as well as in the cylinder. The battery is located under a plastic cover. Battery specifications: 3V lithium (type CR2450N). Lifetime is about ten years or 100,000 key operations. CLIQ Connect keys will have a battery lifetime of about one year. The battery must be replaced when the key starts to indicates low battery. It is possible to make around 50 key operations until the battery is empty once the low battery warning is given. Speed of the electronic function CLIQ cylinders can be operated 0.1 seconds after key insertion. A visual and audible indication is given to the key holder when the key can be turned. Memory structure of cylinders and keys Cylinder: 1,800 authorised individual keys, key groups* and/or programming keys (C-keys) can be stored in the cylinder memory at a time. *Maximum 65.535 keys in each group. 3,000 individual keys can be stored in a black list. Time functions CLIQ keys have a clock and calendar feature. A CLIQ key can be programmed to be; always active, active between certain dates or inactive. It is also possible to set a weekly operation schedule to the key. The calendar allows the administrator to specify up to 50 time periods where the key is granted access throughout the week. Cylinder specific time periods can also be programmed in the key. The key can for instance be programmed to open all cylinders Mon - Fri 8AM - 5PM except for one (or more) cylinder(s) which can only be opened on Saturdays. The clock has an accuracy of minimum +/- 1 minute per month. Wall PD Wall PD is a remote programming device that can program CLIQ keys over an Internet or LAN connection. Wall PDs are typically mounted onto a wall where the key holders easily can update their keys. The CLIQ reader contains of two parts, an escutcheon which is the visible part and the electronics which is placed in a secure location. The parts are connected with an electrical wire. CLIQ Readers can also be used as an extension to a Wall PD. The CLIQ Reader can then be located outdoors while the Wall PD is located on the inside of the wall. This solution makes it possible to update CLIQ keys via a Wall PD from an outdoor location. The wire should be cut to the proper length. The wire cannot be extended. Electronic security of CLIQ keys and cylinders The communication between the cylinder and key is encrypted using a 112-bits 3DES encryption. The coding of the keys and cylinders has been designed so that even in case of a theoretical break of encryption, the security risk is limited to the single component and one time only. The data stored in the keys and cylinders are also encrypted. All data transferred from the factory to the End User's database and further on via a programming device and a programming key (C-key) to a CLIQ cylinder or key is encrypted as well.
